A planetary auger drive and a 12 in. bit for excavators between 2 and 4 tons – the setup for fence posts, deck footings, tree planting, sign posts and ground screws. Boring a hole with an auger instead of a bucket leaves the surrounding ground undisturbed, which matters on a finished lawn or a tight boundary line.
The drive is a two-stage planetary gearbox rather than a direct-drive motor, so it turns slowly with high torque and keeps pulling in clay instead of stalling. The output shaft is a 2 in. hex, which is the common size for replacement bits, so you are not locked into one supplier when you want a 6 in. or an 18 in. flight later. The supplied 12 in. bit has a hardened pilot point and two replaceable carbide cutting teeth.

Which of our machines run it: the MX-25 (9.5 gpm) and the MX-35 (13.2 gpm). The MX-10, MX-10E and MX-17 have 5.3 – 6.6 gpm of auxiliary flow, which is not enough to turn a 12 in. auger – it will stall in anything firmer than sand, so we do not sell it for those machines. Looking after it: check the gearbox oil level every 50 hours, replace the pilot point once it is rounded off, and back the auger out and clear it if it packs solid in wet clay rather than forcing it – a packed flight is what shears a pilot point.
At 320 lb this attachment is a freight item, not a parcel. It ships free on an LTL freight carrier, curbside on a pallet with a liftgate, to any address in the United States. The carrier calls you to book a delivery window. Dispatch takes 1 – 2 business days and transit a further 3 – 6. Unused attachments can be returned within 30 days of delivery.
